Dr. Sara Ruane

Assistant professor at Rutgers University-Newark, Dr. Sara Ruane newly established the Ruane Lab. The Ruane Lab seeks to simultaneously inform reptile and amphibian systematics while also answering broad, contemporary questions in evolutionary biology. Alongside Dr. Jessica Ware, she’ll be taking students to Baja, Mexico in June 2019.

The International Leadership Exchange (ILE) Alumni, Ngĩma Wambugu, traveled as an undergraduate and graduate student to India Puerto Rico and Tanzania to provide solar energy to underserved communities while learning about public administration through engaged interactions. Being a leader and talented individual she balances studying along with hosting her very own radio show called Share Some Mo'.

Highlights

In Spring Break 2018, Rutgers University–Newark’s (RU-N) International Leadership

Exchange (ILE) Global Scholars traveled to Puerto Rico with the multimedia icon,

executive producer and host, Angie Martinez to help to deploy We Share Solar

suitcases in multi-purpose community help centers and a cancer care center in

Puerto Rico.

2019 Travel Calendar

Cuba

A two-credit graduate-level seminar that explores the historical development of Cuba's legal system.  Students will be exposed to the civil law, which is the basis of Cuba's present legal system. 

Seoul, Korea

A three-credit graduate-level course immerses students in the inners workings of the Seoul, Korea. Explore one of the most technological advanced cities while interacting with government representatives.

Tanzania & Zanzibar

A three-credit undergraduate field study introduces participants to the complexity of creating community change in culturally dynamic environments.

Baja, Mexico

A two-week hands-on course for Biology majors interested in biodiversity. Students gain first-hand field experience, immerse in Baja’s local culture, while earn biology degree credits.

Puerto Rico

The program allows students to examine the inner workings of the community, nonprofit and public organizations facilitating disaster relief efforts in rural communities impacted by hurricane Maria (2017).

Italy

The program aims to teach undergraduate and graduate students archaeological field skills and methods. Students will acquire the training by hands-on practice under the supervision of field specialists.

New Hampshire, USA

Students will immerse in sustainable life at the Kroka Village. At Kroka, students are challenged to engage the landscape while learning to become community engaged citizens and stewards of the environment.
