Prof. Seggerman is an art historian who specializes in Islamic art and modern art history. Her first book, Modernism on the Nile, was based on extensive research in Cairo.

Egyptian art history, encompassing ancient sphinxes, Coptic textiles, medieval Islamic mosques, contemporary urban developments, and graffiti from the Arab Spring, will be explored in the on-campus course. We will concentrate on the preservation and presentation of art and cultural assets at museums. Students will learn about the classification and presentation of Egyptian art in the US by visiting the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Newark Museum of Art.
